Applying Fiberfill to Cushions with Staples

Nobody has ever gone out of their way to have an uncomfortable seat. But just about everyone will try to have seating that’s plush, comfy, and soft, even if they have to do it themselves. Luckily, adding polyester fiberfill batting to a seat is easily done through one of two methods and adds a fantastic comfort layer.

The most important aspect of the stapling method is measuring and cutting your fiberfill correctly. To calculate the width of the wrapping, add together the width of the foam side-to-side, the thickness of the cushion, and two inches. For the length of the wrap, double the length of the foam front-to-back, double the thickness, and add two inches to get the batting dimensions you need.

Once you’ve got your fiberfill measured and trimmed, place the foam on the fiber and fold the batting back over the cushion. Starting at the back, fold a flap down over the back edge, fold the bottom up over it, and staple them together from the center, going about half way to the edge of the foam on either side, leaving the ends unattached. Like you’re wrapping a present, pick one of the side edges of the cushion, fold down the matching sides as you did in the back, and apply the same stapling method where the fiber is left loose at the ends. The back corners can now be folded under neatly, and that end can be completed. Lastly, with the front corner, push the middle of the overhang down, fold down the flaps down, and finish stapling. Trim off excess fiberfill and you should have a snugly covered foam cushion ready for relaxation!
