How to Clean a Seat Cushion
Seat cushions take a lot of abuse every day. Because of that, they require regular cleaning. The nature of the cleaning depends on the types of dirt. It could be pet hair, pet dander or simply dust. There could also be grit, funny odors, or debris. Each requires a specific type of cleaning:
Dust, dirt
A chair cushion, regardless of the type of material, will attract dirt over time. The situation is worse for households with pets. For pet hair, wipe the seat with your hand while wearing a rubber glove. For dirt, a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to loosen debris. If there is dirt that is harder to remove, use a toothbrush.
Spills
Even the most careful people eventually spill something. The first step is to blot as much of the liquid as possible before it spreads. White paper towels or soft fabric are good for dye from spills. When it comes to food items like chocolate, use paper towels remove as much as possible. Follow this up with a damp cloth to remove any remnants from the spill.
Odour
Sometimes, stains and spills might not be the issue. The problem could be an odd odor or stale smell. Sprinkle baking soda liberally over the surface of the cushion. Give it a few minutes to extract the smell and use a vacuum to remove the baking soda.
