Painting with Foam Products

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; the reason why we have so many kinds of art in our world. No matter what is created, somebody somewhere will find beauty in it, even if that person is you. Because of this, there are no restrictions on how to create what we do, whether it’s a traditional painting, crafts with the family, or interior design. A product that is used in all of these applications is foam.

Foam pieces for painting can be used in innumerable ways, with its capabilities and range of textures. One of the simplest ways to paint with foam is stamping. Pre-cut foam designs like stars or animals can be dipped in paint or ink and made into a fun arts and crafts project with the kids, or used to accent a room without having to replicate shapes, one by one, by hand. Open-cell materials are absorbent so they will hold paint, giving you options in the appearance of a stamp. When ripped into tiny pieces, corners and edges of foam can get into difficult to reach areas like door jambs and corners and paint those as well. Foam brushes are sold in craft stores, attesting to the versatility of the material in the painting medium.

Closed-cell foam materials can be used to create much more consistent patterns, as they are more like solid blocks than the absorbent open-cell foam forms. These are great for creating custom stamps as their consistency makes them excellent for cutting into your own preferred shapes. A foam cylinder can be used for a paint roller, and depending on the material used, you can get unique patterns from these as well.
