Change Your Couch by Re-Doing the Cushions
You can give your couch a new lease on life when you replace the cushion filling. Why pay big bucks for fancy brand-name cushions when you can choose your optimal level of comfort for far less than what big-box retailers will charge? The job involves a bit of elbow grease, but most crafty people will be done in a day’s worth of work. If you’re interested in finding out how to renew your couch to make it the centerpiece of your living room, read on.
Most retailers sell new cushions for the couches they sell, but you end up paying a markup for the privilege of a brand. It could be worth the cost if you have leather cushions, but for those with fabric the cost is hard to justify. Fabric is easy to clean and replace, if necessary, and you can swap out colors too. That becomes more important as your home’s colors and aesthetic changes over time.
Most couches have a fairly standard cushion type: the square. Still, a few out there have a t-cushion or a trimmed window seat. You’ll need to order custom foam cushions to fit, but you can find them for an affordable price online. You even get to choose firmness, and can swap out memory foam for old couch filling.
The key is to get your measurements right, which is trickier depending on the shape of the cushion. Measuring for fabric is harder than measuring for the cushion, so be sure you draw a diagram to help you.
